Description

Dominated by Merlot, the Saint-Émilion vines of Château Simard boast a silkier profile than their Left Bank cabernet sauvignon cousins. While a young Merlot is characterized by marked fruit aromas and a fresh minerality, aged Merlot transforms into a sumptuous bouquet, with secondary and tertiary aroma undertones. A Merlot that has reached its peak boasts a much more complex body, releasing notes of leather, spices, undergrowth and cigar box… all enveloped in a well developed tannic structure that has become synonymous with these grand crus.

Tasting Notes

There's a gentle floral aspect to the nose, but that's part of a fairly complex picture with savory, dark fruit and hints of earthiness, green pepper and some cocoa. On the palate it is juicy and lean, the tannins and very plum-skin grip of acidity give it definition, but there's a hint of cocoa and coffee again, and berry fruit.
