Cape Mentelle was established in 1970 and was one of the first wineries in the Margaret River, Western Australia. Cape Mentelle pioneered many of the region’s renowned wine styles. Creating the winery’s tradition of pioneering spirit and steadfast commitment to excellence, an innovative young team is taking up the challenge to be simply the best. Robert Mann, grandson of the great winemaker and innovator Jack Mann, has been the Senior Winemaker at Cape Mentelle since 2005. The maritime influence of the Indian Ocean ensures even temperatures providing consistently good conditions for producing very high quality grapes and some of Australia’s finest wines.

Under the direction of Rob Mann, Cape Mentelle's Cabernet Sauvignon has become one of Australia's most prestigious Cabernet's. Derived from what many believe to be the true home to Cabernet in Australia, the Margaret River, Cape Mentelle produce a wine that has a plush full-flavoured palate of concentrated blackcurrants, fresh cassis, cloves, juniper berries and mulberries with a minerally spine and savory tannins. 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 1% Merlot balanced accordingly. Richly textured, and vibrant the palate finishes long with fine yet firm gravelly tannins. The aroma is enticing and herbal, kind of bay leaf and dry thyme. Then it opens to intense ripe cassis, black pepper, smoke and cocoa with hints of fresh rolled tobacco leaves.
