Description
Foursquare Redoutable is a molasses rum from Barbados. It is the 15th in the Exceptional Casks series. These small batches bottled by the Foursquare distillery showcase unique expressions from a variety of ageings. What they all have in common is that they are blends of column rums and pot-still rums. The two distillates are always blended together before ageing.
In this case, two types of ageing were carried out in parallel. For 14 years, rums were matured in ex-bourbon barrels on the one hand, and in ex-Madeira wine barrels on the other. They were blended and bottled in September 2020.
This Single Blended Rum (column and pot-still rum from the same distillery) has not undergone any additions or cold filtration.

Tasting Notes
NOSE:
Immediately shows a very nice density which immediately suggests a good moment to come. The solvent is the first indication of this concentrated character, and we know that it will carry the aromas as far as possible. Gradually, the rum opens up and we begin to discover a woody programme, which starts with very warm nuts.
With a little air, the oak is at its best, and concentration is more important than ever. The coconut and dark vanilla notes are intense, supported by a tobacco that is just as intense. One could almost believe that this is a sweet rum, when notes of roasting reach us without even tickling our nostrils for a moment.
TASTE:
The palate is rather dry on the attack, and concentrates the taste buds as if to set them up for the rest. The mid-palate is a long rise in power and fullness, which is expressed by spices and particularly pepper. This is gradually tinged with soft wood, then caramel, vanilla toffee and toasted but still milky coconut.
FINISH:
The finish is a little fruitier and even carries a hint of resin, which pushes us to the umpteenth sip.
